Troubleshooting

Quick fixes for common Goal Gauntlet issues.

Login & Account

Can't log in

Forgot password:

  1. Tap "Forgot Password" on login screen
  2. Enter your email
  3. Check inbox for reset link
  4. Create new password

Social login not working:

  • Try email/password login instead
  • Check your Google/Apple account is active
  • Reinstall the app and try again

Account not found:

  • Double-check email spelling
  • Try the email you used to sign up (may differ from your social account email)

Session expired

This happens for security. Simply log in again with your credentials.

Can't update profile

  • Profile pictures must be under 5MB
  • Username can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores
  • Usernames must be unique

Linking additional sign-in methods

You can add Google, Apple, or email/password to your account:

  1. Go to SettingsConnected Accounts
  2. Tap the provider you want to add
  3. Follow the authentication prompts

Note: Keep at least one provider linked. If you unlink all methods, you may lose access to your account.

Health Data & Syncing

Steps not showing

See Health Data Troubleshooting for detailed steps.

Quick fixes:

  1. Check health app permissions
  2. Pull to refresh on home screen
  3. Settings → Health Data → Sync Now
  4. Restart the app

Steps seem wrong

  • Undercounted: Wait a few minutes for sync, then refresh
  • Overcounted: Check for duplicate apps in your health platform
  • Small differences from your fitness app are normal

"Permission denied"

  1. Go to phone Settings → Privacy → Health (iOS) or Apps → Health Connect (Android)
  2. Find Goal Gauntlet
  3. Enable all permissions
  4. Restart the app

Challenges & Gauntlets

Can't find a gauntlet

  • Double-check the invite code spelling
  • Ask the organizer to resend the code
  • Codes are case-sensitive

Leaderboard not updating

  • Leaderboards update when participants sync
  • Pull to refresh for latest standings
  • Large gauntlets may have slight delays

Left a gauntlet by accident

Contact the organizer to be re-added. If you paid an entry fee, a new payment may be required.

Challenge shows wrong time

  • Check your phone's timezone is correct
  • Gauntlet times are shown in your local timezone
  • Go to Settings → scroll down to see current timezone

Payments

Payment declined

  • Verify card details
  • Check available funds
  • Try Apple Pay or Google Pay instead
  • Contact your bank

Where's my prize payout?

  1. Settings → Payments → Payout History
  2. Payouts take 3-5 business days
  3. Verify your payout method is set up
  4. Contact support if not received after 7 days

Need a refund

  • Before challenge starts: Open gauntlet → Menu → Leave Gauntlet
  • After challenge starts: Refunds not available (fairness policy)
  • Technical issues: Contact support

App Performance

App crashes

  1. Update to latest version (App Store / Play Store)
  2. Restart your phone
  3. Reinstall the app
  4. If persistent, report the issue

App is slow

  • Close other apps running in background
  • Check available storage (need at least 100MB free)
  • Clear app cache: Settings → Storage → Clear Cache
  • Update to latest version

Notifications not working

iPhone:

  1. Settings → Notifications → Goal Gauntlet → Enable
  2. Check Do Not Disturb is off
  3. In-app: Settings → Notifications → enable desired alerts

Android:

  1. Settings → Apps → Goal Gauntlet → Notifications → Enable
  2. Check battery optimization isn't blocking notifications
  3. In-app: Settings → Notifications → enable desired alerts

Still not receiving notifications?

Use the built-in debug tool:

  1. Go to SettingsNotifications
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Check Push Status
  3. Review the diagnostic info:
    • Permission Status — Should be "granted"
    • Has Token — Should be "Yes"
    • Is Device — Should be "Yes" (not a simulator)
  4. If "Has Token" is "No", tap Try Re-register to refresh your push token
  5. Tap Send Test Notification to verify delivery

Battery drain

  • Reduce sync frequency: Settings → Health Data → Sync Frequency → Daily
  • Disable push notifications for non-essential alerts
  • The app uses minimal battery during normal use

Chat & Social

Can't send messages

  • Check internet connection
  • Pull to refresh the chat
  • Restart the app
  • Verify you're a member of the gauntlet

Messages not loading

  1. Pull down to refresh
  2. Check internet connection
  3. Wait a moment (large chat histories may take time)
  4. Force close and reopen app

Can't see other participants

  • The organizer may have hidden the participant list
  • Wait for the challenge to start (some gauntlets hide members until start)
